With the recent explosion in articles stemming from the releases of Unity, Rogue, and Syndicate, I have come to the conclusion that our current Sourcing Policy is now somewhat insufficient for the task of accurately and concisely sourcing all the new information being added. As such, I would like to propose a rather simple addition to the sourcing policy, in order to help make referring to and verifying additions to our articles much easier.
The Proposal[edit | edit source]
From now on, additions to articles should be sourced to the media they came from and, if available, the mission ("memory") they came from. For example: Template:Spoiler At the outbreak of war in 1914, Jaocb and Evie were removed to the safety of the countryside, while Lydia remained in London to protect the city for German spies, and Templar agents. Template:Spoiler End
The reference above provides not only the media the information is sourced from, but also the exact location of the information in-game (i.e. Database:Lydia Frye). For any information stemming from a particular memory, the name of the memory would be given:
Template:Spoiler Starrick's Soothing Syrup was seen to almost liquefy consumers after long periods of consumption. Template:Spoiler End
Quotes[edit | edit source]
For quotes, in the case where a video game is the source, the source cited shall simply change from the game itself, to the mission the information came from:
Template:Spoiler Template:Spoiler End
On the occasion wherein the quote comes from a modern day sequence, the source should remain as it currently is (until such time that an article such as "Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (modern day)", or something to that effect, is created).
If the source is a media that cannot be easily divided further, such as a novel or movie, then the source shall remain as it is.
Conclusion[edit | edit source]
This is a rough draft proposal, that will need further amendments before potentially going live, taking into consideration any comments or suggestions that result from this proposal. Please leave your comments below.
Please note that this proposal simply looks to make such sourcing required. There is nothing in the sourcing policy currently that prevents a user from using the detailed sourcing format listed above, if they so wish.<ac_metadata title="Proposed update to the Sourcing Policy"> </ac_metadata>
