After thinking it over, my personal preference at the end of the day is still option #2. It is my opinion that any confusion stemming from the simple use of floruit as a notation would have a minimal impact and that we're actually unnecessarily complicating the usage in option #3. I think that even using the first and last appearance of a character is inaccurate utilization of this notation because it is designed specifically for dates where an individual is known to have been alive or the years they were active in the career involving their magnum opus, not in-universe years of media appearances.
However, I also think it is improper of me not to take consideration of the concerns of other users—and enough have been raised—and make compromises to be helpful to these concerns, and I think Jasca's proposal is a very decent and well thought out one. I suppose also that it might be a bonus for a character's in-universe appearance years to be noted.
Because of this, I have constantly vacillated between option 2 and 3, even in the midst of writing this. >.< I was originally going to put my vote at option 3, but then I realize that I guess I'm technically supposed to vote for just what I personally think is the best, not what I think is the best based on what is most appealing to the majority? Because if everyone theoretically did that, then we won't get honest votes...
So I guess I'm voting for option 2, not that it makes a difference at this point haha.
