The Ankh is definitely canonical. Only the Modern Day portions of the French Comics are considered non-canon.
I'm aware of that, but I don't see any other reason why they'd write in that particular audio file in Rogue otherwise.

If the next installations are a trilogy and one of them does take place in Greece, the Antikythera mechanism could be a Piece of Eden featured. It could be used to tie in Desmond’s story line as it is possibly the machine used to predict the future.
That would be good, but I feel like they'd just pick a regular Piece of Eden as their focal artifact again. It was kind of like hoping the Fountain of Youth would show up in Black Flag, and we just got a Crystal Skull.

I think they have been building up to doing an Ancient Egypt game since the beginning. Some of Subject 16’s Cryptic messages were Egyptian themed, in The Tyranny of King Washington episodes Washington had an All Seeing Eye themed pyramid built and used the All Seeing Eye in his propaganda on buildings, and there was an image of a man in Egypt looking at pyramids in an email in AC4 (the same email hinted at AC Unity and AC Syndicate settings like the French Revolution, Victorian England, World War I, and World War II).
To be fair Clay's cryptic messages, and the various cryptic messages throughout the series, contained references to lots and lots of different events and settings. While I'm sure an Egypt game never has been off the table, I don't think that when they created the first game they already had one in Egypt planned, the same applies for the other things. The image of the man from Egypt was just concept art for their cancelled Osiris project.

I also noticed that the email in AC 4 mentioned pirates, zombies, and ninjas. They already covered pirates and ninjas would be featured in a Japan setting. I was thinking the zombies could be a hint at the ankh’s ability to temporarily resurrect people.
Well while it might be completely over the top, seeing a down-to-earth style of zombie might be pretty cool.
