Ubisoft's seeming anxiety and reluctance to market their games with a main female lead has of course been very disturbing to many of us. Even when they have a female protagonist on equal footing as the male protagonist, they still relegate the former to a secondary status in promotional material. This sort of reluctance in this day and age seems strange and even unreasonable; there have been plenty of video games and movies now with female heroines, so I do not understand why Ubisoft act as though this would harm sales. Do their data truly show that their main demographic are misogynists? By their choice of Kassandra as the canonical protagonist of Odyssey, it seems once again that they themselves want a female lead, and yet they take truly awkward baby steps in giving a heroine the exclusive spotlight.
