If Clay was able to create an AI through the use of his memories as the baseline for behavior why couldn't it happen here. Our memories plus genetics is the closest to tangible proof for personality and conscience. Since the animus had access to most of the mother's past and DNA it should be able to make a reasonable predict for how she'd react to even new and unknown scenarios such as say being reunited with her son after him finding out abou the assassins.
That's almost exactly what I mean with a "AI", biologically speaking, being store in the descendant's body that express the thoughts and personality of the ancestor. If something of that exists, maybe the Animus could "read" and "simulate" that.
Callum's mom seem so real. "You are not alone, Cal. You never were". Who the hell did she knew about Cal's life? Was she watching from "inside" him? Or is a reality that she thought in her last moments?
Callum's mom wasn't plugged in the animus though. She died when Cal was a kid. I doubt that actual people using the animus would have the same capabilities as those whose DNA (only!) was used for the animus.
That's my problem with Lacrossedeamon's sync nexus :/ There's no whay the animus could "simulate" her life because before Desmond, the machine wasn't capable of simulate memories without a descendant. After him, the Animus only needs a little bit of blood of remains of the ancestor's corpse. Callum's mom died when the animus was first a prototipe so this "sync nexux" could come only FROM Callum's body.
The way I see it is that the Animus made a visual representation of Callum's mind (sort of like a dream or visual thought). Callum was 'ready' to become an Assassin and visualised his own initiation, together with his mom and dad (and some other assassins just to for the sake of having assassins around). He was reliving no memory, it was not some kind of nexus, it was all just a 'dream' invented by Callum.
I don't think so :/ Callum never meet his other ancestors, not even Arno(?) (In my personal opinion, he's Arno) so it can't be a "dream" or visual thought. Callum's mom interaction and Sophie's possible ancestors discard this theory. It's more than a dream. Also a dream, imaginary things or visual thoughts are considered memories inside a memory, just like Ezio's repressed Memories in Brotherhood.
Whatever it was, it connects Callum's body with something that's new in the AC universe. That's for sure.
