For all intents and purposes, the Trident of Eden could very well be considered another Staff of Eden seeing how it shares its basic abilities and functionality. It's just that you can break it down into three separate prongs which is seemingly unique to the Trident just how being able to use the AoE in combination with the Papal staff is unique to it and is not possible for the Tsar's staff or other Staves of Eden.
I really hope your theory is correct, it would certainly make more sense considering that it was reveavled in Subject 16's Glyphs that Alexander the Great had a Staff of Eden, but the books said he had a Trident of Eden.
It would certainly make more sense for the Trident to be one of the variations of the Staves of Eden.
