Exactly, the goal of citation first and foremost is to show honestly where you're getting information, partly so that others can verify it themselves as well, and they can gauge the reliability of it. While ideally we should always strive to use the most authoritative, professional, peer-reviewed, academic sources, and absent that, we use the best we have, even if it's not a reliable source, we actually remedy that by citing to it if we're taking from it, so others can check and gauge for themselves the reliability of it. Not citing information is worse than citing to an unreliable source, but what's worse is that right now, we're taking from an unreliable source then not citing to it because we don't want to admit we're taking from an unreliable source. -_-

Of course the issue here is the Attribution policy that we should only be sourcing to official Ubisoft material. But you guys want to allow exceptions to this policy. But I think you guys somehow think that by not clarifying when you're making those exceptions, you're avoiding violating the policy. As long as you refrain from saying "oh we got it from an outside source", you think it's not against sourcing policy. Saying you're taking information from outside sources isn't violating the policy; it's taking information from outside sources that's violating the spirit of the policy. You're already violating it by taking from outside sources regardless of whether you say it or not.

But the most important thing is always to cite your sources even if you're squeamish about the source. This way readers know what you're doing. They know you're taking from outside sources because that's the truth, so they know to judge for themselves how reliable it is, and most importantly, they'll know it's not from Assassin's Creed. We're misleading fans otherwise. :-/

If you do decide that we should amend the policy to allow exceptions, then go all the way and actually amend the policy.
