Since when is an Assassin supposed to be a walking arsenal?
It's only because of the whole "action hero protagonist" archetype in video games that we've had Ezio and Connor going out to save the day while tooled to the eyeballs like Batman is.
Did Ezio need the Codex inventions to be an Assassin realistically? Did Connor need to have rope darts and two pistols and a tomahawk and a Hidden Blade and swords and daggers and a bow to be an Assassin? No.
So to really "strip the choices away" like they touted for AC3, the next Assassin needs only a few tools, and having an Assassin in the past helps to support this.
