A Fanon for a character often has the character's name as the title, whereas a story usually has something else for it.

Stories are also not dependant on the viewpoint of one character, so the scene could change to see what the bad guy is planning, instead of being 100% good guy all the time (if it's a good guy).

For example, a character Fanon could be titled "ACFanon:GuyCool12", and a story could be titled "ACFanon:Coolness times Twelve".
