As many of you are aware, from time to time we face an issue of ridiculously old blogs and forum pages being bumped up by anons and people who just don't know better. I think the latest record was a bump of a blog from 2010. To end this stuff, at least for a time, I propose a vote to archive a non-editable versions of the pages for record-keeping purposes, and purge the forum threads older than 2012, since anything older seems hardly relevant at this point.

Also, if you're not aware, if a blog's comments have been inactive for 30 days, registered people can't reply to it anymore. Yet somehow, anons are still able to do so, and keep pointlessly bumping them. This should be remedied.

Have a vote, on me. --Kainzorus Prime Walkie-talkie 15:31, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

Purge

  2. Since my suggestion has been added. When (if?) this goes through, we will have to decide on the process to ensure we can effectively enforce this amendment. --Jasca Ducato (talk | contributions) 16:09, February 3, 2014 (UTC)
  3. The recent increase in people bumping old forums has infuriated me. And this is how I react to this occurrence. --Crimson Knight Intercom 16:12, February 3, 2014 (UTC)
  4. This is what I think of the number of bumped forums/blogs. Stormbeast The Helpful Place 18:01, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

  1. I would recommend an amendment to this proposal, saying that forum posts older than a set age (say, five times the inactivity period) are automatically backed-up (as a non editable page) and deleted, so that we at least have a record of past conversations. I do however think blog posts are another matter; one which I am not quite sure how we should approach.

In general, however, I agree with your proposal. --Jasca Ducato (talk | contributions) 15:45, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

May I ask where I can find the non-editble versions of those pages? I've seen that Amnestyyy deleted a lot of stuff, some of from last year, where did it go? --ShardofTruth (talk) 13:22, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

I'm archiving the pages that have any relevance - i.e. Community votes, important decisions, etcetera. Pages that merely contained a question or statement which was discussed years ago is not relevant enough to warrant an archiving. Nesty Contact me! 13:24, March 3, 2014 (UTC)
I still don't see how this follows the cleanup that was discussed here. Why didn't you simply move all forum posts and blogs to an archive area (like it's done for personal talk pages) and make them non-editiable? I think this is a rather rude behaviour to deal with non-mainspace pages that are also even partly in userspace. --ShardofTruth (talk) 13:30, March 3, 2014 (UTC)
Read the proposal, it says: "and purge the forum threads older than 2012, since anything older seems hardly relevant at this point." I'm just doing my job. Nesty Contact me! 13:33, March 3, 2014 (UTC)
At least to me it reads like "achieve the pages" and "clean the forums from the old posts after that". It's not like that I'm strictly against deleting these pages, I think it's just an unusual way to deal with these issues. --ShardofTruth (talk) 13:49, March 3, 2014 (UTC)
