Well, that would be it, it seems. The Bags are packed, the Sails trimmed, the long Trick finally over. The old Revenge is ready for the Journey Home to Barbados Tomorrow, and myself along with her.
I should be glad for it, and a large Part of me is. I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but I do miss my Mary, and the Children I left behind. How many can say they plundered with Ed Thatch, were pardoned by the King, and sailed Home to tell the Tale? And in Truth, I never quite found the Constitution for it all anyway, the Dust-ups and the general Bluster.
So why, then, does my Heart still long for the open Sea? There's a sense of things yet undone. The Call of the Gulls and the Promise of Adventure is still wild, still clear. Thought the prospect of Danger turns my Stomach, the Dread of dying in a silken Bed forgotten and full of Regret is the more distasteful to me.
Edward, my old friend, you had such a way with Words. What would you say in a Moment such as this? Sod it all.
Barbados can wait. Mary will have to be patient. I'll to the Helm again,[sic] set a new Course, and make something of this Life.
