Mark Brown

Mark Brown is an American ex-patriot game designer working as a Lead Level Designer for Ubisoft Philippines.

Biography

Early life and career

Mark Brown attended and graduated from Marple Newtown Senior High in 1995, before dropping out of an Architectural Engineering degree at Penn State University in 1998. He then became a level designer at Monolith Productions, with his first credit being the 1998 video game Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. He designed levels for many other games and several other companies. He was the world designer for the 2005 MMORPG video game The Matrix Online, and contributed heavily to the 2014 video game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its 2017 sequel, Shadow of War.

Assassin's Creed

During his involvement with Assassin's Creed: Valhalla beginning in 2018, Brown took on leadership responsibilities, guiding a team of level designers from the initial stages of pre-production to the beta phase. He fostered collaboration with sister and parent studios to ensure cohesive design and implementation across various aspects of the game. Brown's dedication extended to thorough research into the game's time period and locations, contributing to the authenticity of the virtual world. Working closely with the art and quest teams, he ensured that all gameplay elements were meticulously integrated. Additionally, Brown spearheaded efforts in researching and planning the game world's geography, quest placements, secondary locations, and road networks. His contributions encompassed the creation of multiple in-game locations and the establishment of AI pathways and road networks. Moreover, he enriched the player experience by introducing wildlife and additional activities throughout the game world.
