The Tattoo Shop was the home of the Raven Clan's chief tattooist Svend and his apprentice Tove and was located in southern Ledecestrescire, Mercia within the Norse settlement of Ravensthorpe. Svend and Tove were among other residents who followed Styrbjorn's children Eivor Varinsdottir and Sigurd Styrbjornsson to build a new life in England.[1] After founding a settlement, Eivor found resources and built a home and workshop for Tove and Svend.[2] Around 873, Svend died in his sleep as Tove was bereaved over the death of her adoptive father. However, after talking with Eivor, Tove was given closure and took over as the new chief tattooist for the Raven Clan.[3]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
While tattoos are a prevalent feature of pop culture's idea of Vikings, historically it is less well attested. The writings Arab traveler Ahmad ibn Fadlan describe a group of Kyivan Rus' as being tattooed from "the tips of his toes to his neck". However this one of the only attestations for tattooed Vikings. There is no known word for tattoo in the Old Norse language nor do any Norse sources mention the practice.[4] While this does not mean it never occurred, it implies that it was not as staple to the Viking culture as depicted.
