Perikles' Residence was the main residence of the Athenian statesman Perikles in Athens, Greece.
History[edit | edit source]
In 431 BCE, Perikles hosted a symposium which was attended by his friends and colleagues, including the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
When the plague struck Athens in around 430 BCE, Perikles' residence became a safe harbor for some. Perikles himself, struck down by the disease, withdrew into his quarters, and refused to see anyone. He did, however, grant Kassandra an audience. On the terrace outside, they considered the state of the city.[2]
After the defeat of Kleon in 422 BCE, Kassandra returned to the residence, hosting a party alongside Alkibiades, Aristophanes, Herodotos, Hippokrates, and Sokrates.[3]
