Interior of the Octopus' Beak

The Octopus' Beak was a tavern in 19th-century Tripoli, Libya.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1805, the tavern housed a meeting between the Black Cross Solomon Bolden, the Flemish merchant Jan van der Graff, and the latter's contacts Edmund and Ahkbar, as Bolden and Van der Graff sought information about secret entrances into Sultan Selim III's palace. Following the meeting, Edmund left the Octopus' Beak and was recognized as a deserter by a patrol of soldiers, who shot him dead.[1]
