Avaris, also called Haat-wurat, was the Hyksos capital of Egypt.

In the 16th century BCE, the city was attacked but its defenses held fast because of the Hyksos warriors, prolonging pharaoh Khamudi's reign for many years until its inevitable fall.[1]
