It's come to my attention that there seems to be a little bit of confusion as to applying categories to articles, especially ones that involve characters. I have a system in mind that I've been utilizing, whether or not I'm to credit for it, which I believe some other users have noticed and applied to their own editing efforts (i.e. Crook and Storm), but I want to motion this to make it official for everyone's benefit.

To use characters as an example, I propose that they be laid as follows:

Wiki templates (article status etc.) > Date of birth > Date of death > Individuals > Nationality and/or Ethnicity > Professions/Roles in society (in order of progression/chronology) > Affiliations (i.e. families, participants of organizations or groups) > Assassin/Templar affiliations (with progressive titles or roles applied in cases of Assassin leader > Master Assassin/Templar > Mentors/Grand Masters) > Individuals with suffix (held Piece of Eden, Eagle Vision, with chronology in mind) > Ancestral line (Desmond, Clay etc.)

To use Ezio as an example, this is how the order should be according to this proposal:

Featured Articles, 1459 births, 1524 deaths, Individuals, Italians, Couriers, Farmers, Auditore family, Assassins, Master Assassins, Mentors, Individuals with Eagle Vision, Individuals who held Pieces of Eden, Ancestors of Desmond Miles, Ancestors of Clay Kaczmarek

You can see I put Farmers after Couriers, even though he was a farmer after his retirement, but that's because it groups the professions together before the affiliations and then the Assassin/Templar affiliations. I also put Individual with Eagle Vision before Individuals who held Pieces of Eden, since we all know he had EV before he obtained one of the Apples of Eden. Ancestors comes after Individuals and not the affiliations for family, due in part to ancestral lines being future-forward applications.

If you have any questions about how categories should be ordered if this proposal does come into place, feel free to ask me or someone more experienced for their opinion on the matter.

Thanks for your time and consideration anyhow, and comments are appreciated for refinement purposes. Slate Vesper (talk) 11:59, May 11, 2014 (UTC)

TL;DR: Read the proposal, lazybum.

  4. This'll be a bit of a pain to remember, but sure! Crook The Constantine District 13:12, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
  5. Just to clarify, article status automatically comes first, if the template is used like it's supposed to be. Stormbeast The Helpful Place 16:10, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
    1. I kinda knew that, but added it in anyway to demonstrate the structure. :3 Slate Vesper (talk) 16:54, May 11, 2014 (UTC)

Nay

  1. I would prefer categories be listed alphabetical. It negates any arguments that might occur regarding dating inconsistencies.--Jasca Ducato (talk | contributions) 13:26, May 25, 2014 (UTC)

Comments

  1. Just as a little addendum, all it really comes down to a little organizational sense, especially when considering other elements like locations and Timeline pieces. With a grasp on this sort of ordering and the hierarchy of subcategories, it becomes a piece of pie. :) Slate Vesper (talk) 13:16, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
