William Stoughton

William Stoughton (1631 – 7 July 1701) was a colonial magistrate and administrator in Massachusetts Bay. A member of the Templar Order, he was in charge of the Salem witch trials. By 1892, he worked closely with Samuel Parris as an executioner.

Having discovered that the Assassins Tom Stoddard and Jennifer Querry had come to Salem to hunt for the precursor artifact, Stoughton encouraged the Salem townsfolk to hunt and kill the Assassins, an idea that Parris objected.
