Vasco da Gama
Vasco da Gama (c. 1460 – 1524) was the commander of the first ships to sail directly from Europe to India. Because of this journey, he was appointed Viceroy of India and also Admiral of the seas of Persia, Arabia, and India. [citation needed]

Vasco also wrote a personal diary at some point in his life. One of the pages ended up in the possession of Peter Beckford during the Golden Age of Piracy and was looted by Edward Kenway.[1]
Trivia
- Vasco da Gama was a likely owner or scholar of the Voynich manuscript or one of its copies and wrote about it in his diary.[2]
