Terry

Terry was a Scottish lumberjack who resided in the Davenport Homestead during the American Revolutionary War, along with his wife, Diana, and their two sons.

Biography

Early Life

Prior to arriving on the Homestead, he and his companion Godfrey had set up a camp nearby, and had had begun lumbering north of Champlain, New York. Godfrey described the distance from their camp to the Davenport Homestead as a "few rods" away.

Meeting Connor

After traversing the river directing the timber, Terry somehow became submerged in the water, clinging to a log, choking and drifting towards a waterfall. After a young Connor saved him, he and Godfrey set up a sawmill on the Homestead, where they provided lumber for trading and crafting purposes.

Robbery

Sometime later, a robber entered the Homestead and targeted Terry's home, causing him a great deal of anxiety, despite the criminal being apprehended by Connor. Provoked on this matter by Godfrey, who treated the situation with light-heartedness since it had been resolved, the pair began to fight. Terry's sons, frightened, raced off and called for Connor, who followed them to the scene of the brawl, and he intervened, breaking it up. Upon the cease of fighting, Diana patched up Terry's wounds, which consisted of a bruise on his forehead. Godfrey later mentioned to Connor that Terry often brawled with him, and had a fairly short temper. Despite this, Godfrey was the stronger of the pair and could overpower Terry if he needed to.

Life on the Homestead

Following Father Timothy's arrival, where he revealed his origin of London, Terry and Godfrey chuckled, as they had little or no regard for the British. He pressed that he was of no allegiance to the British, and only wished to spread the word of God. Terry replied that the members of the Homestead were hard workers, and if Father Timothy wished to stay, he would have to earn his keep. Timothy agreed, and the gathered townsfolk agreed that a church could be arranged, where Connor provided the funds necessary.

Terry also assisted in fighting against British soldiers alongside Connor, Godfrey, Myriam, and David Walston, who came to the Homestead to arrest David for desertion.

After the wedding of Norris and Myriam, Terry was present at the reception with Diana, Godfrey, and Catherine, where they all reflected on their own marriages. He also was present at the funeral of Achilles Davenport, and laid a rose on his coffin.

Trivia

• Terry and Diana were illiterate, as they required Father Timothy to read a letter received from Terry's favorite cousin, Jock. This letter went on to mention that Jock was due to arrive at the Homestead in one or two week's time.
• Terry smoked a pipe, as he was seen puffing on one in "The Mile's End" from time to time.
• Terry, frustrated that he couldn't beat Godfrey at anything, built a Bowls' field near "The Mile's End," but still failed to win.
• During the winter seasons on the Homestead, Terry's two sons can be seen erecting snowmen outside of their home, and giggling as they placed sailor caps on them.
  • They can also be found chasing each other and laughing in Warren and Prudence's fields.
• For no apparent reason, Terry's two sons can be seen walking inside the side door of "The Mile's End" from time to time.
