The Temple of Athena Nike was a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena located on the Athenian Akropolis Sanctuary in Attika, Greece.
History
The location was used as a site of worship to Athena Nike as early as the 6th century BCE by early Mycenaean settlers. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the Greco-Persian Wars. However, it was rebuilt during the Peloponnesian War as a temple. As Nike was the goddess of victory, the Athenians hoped rebuilding it would bring glory to Athens.[1]
Also during the time, the temple was explored by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
Trivia
- Historically, the Temple was built in c. 421 BCE, making its appearance in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey anachronistic.[3]
