Stefano da Bagnone (1418-1480) is one of the Pazzi conspirators who attempted to murder Lorenzo de' Medici. He was a monk and a secretary to Jacopo de Pazzi and one of the men whom Jacopo hired to kill Lorenzo, he was the one who stabbed Lorenzo in the back at the Duomo. He was known for his cruelty towards others. Stefano was trained in Rome as a Templar Butcher. He flees to Tuscany (the countryside near San Gimignano) and hides in the Monte Oliveto Maggiore, a monastery near San Gimignano. Before being assassinated by Ezio, Bagnone was telling another monk that God did not exist.

Before killing Stefano, Mario's mercenary will give you 3 Smoke Bombs, which will help you escape after assassinating your target. After he gives you the Smoke Bombs, they are unlocked in Blacksmiths' shops. These smoke bombs become a highly useful way to escape situations where you are severely outnumbered.

Final Words

Bagnone: Now I will see who was right...

Ezio: Where is Jacopo?

Bagnone: Nothing to fear I suppose... They meet in the shadow of the Roman Gods...

Ezio: Ora sei libero dalla paura. (Be free of your fear now.) Requiescat in Pace. (Rest in peace.)

Trivia

  • In real life, Stefano da Bagnone was a priest who tried to kill Lorenzo de Medici. He found refuge with monks but was arrested on May 3, 1478. His nose and ears were cut off. He was hanged after being thrown from the Palazzo della Signoria tower.
  • He is initially shown to be atheist (being part of an atheist organization and was openly claiming God does not exist to another Templar) but is actually unsure of the truth (as shown in the Final Words section above).
