Ratohnhaké:ton (pronounced Ra-doon-ha-gay-doon), also known as Connor Kenway, was an American Assassin living in colonial America during the latter half of the 18th century. He was an ancestor of Desmond Miles.
Biography
Born to an English father and a Native American mother, Connor was raised among the Mohawk, and suffered severely during his childhood, largely from their encounters with European colonists.[1]
The conflict reached its pinnacle when his village was destroyed, prompting Connor to seek justice, and fight tyranny.[1] His endeavors led him to the Assassin Order, and he joined them in 1770.[2]
Some time later, the American Revolutionary War unfolded, and Connor found himself allying with the leaders of the American revolutionaries, including George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.[1] At this time, he also met other notable figures, such as Charles Lee and Gilbert du Motier.[2]
Equipment and skills
Connor was a skilled freerunner, able to climb trees and swing from one to another, as well as scale cliff faces or other natural elements. He could move through the cityscape just as easily, and was able to slide under, or vault over obstacles within urban environments.[1]
Accompanying his capacity to move fluidly, Connor was able to wield several different weapons - including a tomahawk, hidden blade, bow, flintlock pistols, rifle, and rope dart - and could dual-wield a combination of these.[1]
Unlike most Assassins before him, Connor did not wear robes, though he retained the hood. Instead, he wore a knee-length coat with blue lining, as well as a thin blue sash fastened with an Assassin insignia, and brown boots past his knees.[1]
Personality and characteristics
- "[Connor]'s one of those people that has an inbuilt sense of right and wrong... He isn't a grey area kind of guy."
- ―Alex Hutchinson, Creative Director of Assassin's Creed III.
Connor appeared thoughtful and intense, and the words he did not speak were just as loud as the ones he did. His movements resembled those of a predator, always staying low to the ground and moving under enemy attacks.[1]
Trivia
- Contrary to some of Desmond Miles' other ancestors (including Aquilus, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, and Ezio Auditore da Firenze) possessing connections to eagles, Connor has a closer resemblance to a wolf. Writer Matt Turner felt this would distinguish Connor from his predecessors.
- As with both Altaïr and Ezio, the meaning of Connor's name connects to his character:
- "Connor" is a Gaelic name meaning "lover of hounds."
- "Kenway" is an Old English name meaning "brave royal fighter."
- "Ratohnhaké:ton" means "his spirit lives" or "life scratcher" in Mohawk.[3]
- Unlike Altaïr, Ezio, and Desmond, Connor does not have a scar on his lip, similar to Aquilus.
- Connor's sash is red in both concept art and his teaser trailer, but in the reveal trailer and in-game photos, it is blue.
