The Pnyx is a hill in Athens, Greece, where ancient Athenians gathered for assemblies. It was also where decress were ratified, budgets voted on, and administration members were appointed, thus making it an important site in the city.

In 431 BCE, the Spartan misthios, Kassandra, travelled to the Pynx, where she met with Herodotos. There, the historian introduced her to Perikles, a statesman who was giving a speech to the citizens.[1]

Later in 427 BCE, Kassandra and her friend and philsopher, Sokrates, put up a performance to encourage the Athenians to vote against Kleon's efforts to put the whole population of Mytileneans to death.[2]
