Perikles' Residence

Perikles' Residence was the main residence of the Athenian statesman Perikles in Athens, Greece.

History

In 431 BCE, Perikles hosted a symposium which was attended by his friends and colleagues, including the misthios Kassandra.[1]

When the plague struck Athens in around 430 BCE, Perikles' residence became a safe harbor for some. Perikles himself, struck down by the disease, withdrew into his quarters, and would barely see anyone. He did, however, grant Kassandra an audience. They spoke while Perikles gazed at the city outside the walls of his home.[2]

After the defeat of Kleon in 422 BCE, Kassandra returned to the residence, hosting a party alongside Alkibiades, Aristophanes, Herodotos, Hippokrates and Sokrates.[3]
