Pei Min (裴旻) was a Chinese general who lived in the Tang dynasty during the 8th century.[1] He was also known as Jiansheng (劍聖, lit. 'Sage of Swords'),[2] and was so skilled with the jian that the expression 'Three Wonders' referred to Li Bai’s poetry, Pei Min’s swordsmanship, and Zhang Xu’s calligraphy.[3]
During his service in the Tang army, Pei Min was appointed to the Fanyang Commandery, then known as the Commandery of Youzhou. There, he helped to defend the empire against the Khitan and the Xiongnu. In times of peace, he served as a patrol around the commandery borders, during which he encountered the Order of the Ancients led by the An Lushan.[4]
