Statue of Zeus on the mountain

Mount Hymettos, alternatively Mt. Hymettos', is a mountain range east of Athens in the region of Attika, Greece.

In classicaly antiquity, the mountain contained an altar dedicated to Zeus Ombrios, the bringer of rain which, by the 5th century BCE, had largely disappeared, leaving only a statue remaining.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the mountain and the statue was visited by the Spartan misthios, Kassandra.[1]
