Limassol is a city in Cyprus, which was most likely built after the destruction of Amathus, though ancient graves and relics found there suggest that the site was inhabited as early as 2000 BCE.

The city could be divided into four main districts, being the port, the marketplace, the cathedral square and the castle.

History[edit | edit source]

Middle Ages[edit | edit source]

In 1191, the city of Limassol was under control of the Templars, who ruled the populace with an iron fist. The supreme ruler of Limassol, along with the island, was the Templar Grand Master Armand Bouchart. Because of his oppression, "people [were] afraid to leave their homes in fear of breaking some obscure new law".[1]

During his time in Limassol, the Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad assassinated Fredrick the Red, and eliminated Bouchart himself, in the Templar Archive located beneath the Limassol Castle.[1]

Later on, in 1195, Altaïr and Maria Thorpe held their wedding in Limassol.[2]

Renaissance[edit | edit source]

In late 1510, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze sailed to Limassol during his pilgrimage to Masyaf, on a ship owned by Ma'Mun, after he had received a map of the island that was drawn by the Ottoman cartographer and Assassin, Piri Reis. Later, during his stay, Ezio rediscovered the mostly destroyed Templar Archive.[3]
