The Amber Room, also referred to as the Amber Chamber and by the moniker of the Eighth Wonder of the World,[1] was a chamber decorated in amber panels backed with gold leaf and mirrors, located in the Tsars' summer residence of Catherine Palace near Saint Petersburg, Russia.[2]

During World War II, the invading Nazi soldiers looted the palace, dismantling the entire room and shipping its contents off to Königsberg, Prussia[3] after the city of Pushkin was caught in the nearby siege of Saint Petersburg. In 1943, the Königsberg Museum's director sent a panel to the SS Obergruppenführer and German Templar Gero Kramer in Książ Castle in occupied Poland as a favor. Kramer included the piece as one of the items to be auctioned off on 15 July of the same year, though interference by the Assassins led by Boris Pash left the item's fate unknown after the castle's destruction.[1] The rest of the items fared the same way after the Allied bombing of Königsberg.[2]
