John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (7 April 1648 – 24 February 1721), was an English poet and Tory politician.

Sheffield had a private residence built, the then-called Buckingham House. After his death, King George III purchased it in 1761 as a as a gift for his wife, Queen Charlotte.^[1]
