Hogonji Temple (寶嚴寺) is a Buddhist temple on Chikubushima in Lake Biwa, dedicated to the goddess Benzaiten[1]
History
In 1582, Lady Oichi, accompanied by her bodyguard Kuma, held a meeting at the temple where she gave her last instructions to her followers as a member of the Shinbakufu. Just as it ended, Oichi was confronted by Yasuke and his ally Fujibayashi Naoe, who expressed shock and anger at her identity. After a heated conversation where Oichi claimed she was tricked into the group, Naoe and Yasuke ultimately agreed to spare Oichi's life. The next morning, Yasuke visited Oichi in temple, asking why she did not tell him about her predicament earlier. At the end, Oichi handed her older brother's wakizashi to Yasuke before vowing to meditate and find ways to make up for her mistakes.[2]
