The Grand Bazaar was a large market in Constantinople (former İstanbul)

History

The Grand Bazaar opened to the public in 1461 and was very popular with food, spices, pottery, fabric and many more. It is one of the largest covered markets in the world with over 250,000 and a half million visitors daily. It was a very famous Turkish land mark and shopping place in the Ottoman Empire.

Trivia

  • The name means "Covered Bazaar" (Turkish: Kapalıçarşı) and was one of the largest covered markets in the world.
  • The Grand Bazaar was seen in the Assassin's Creed Revelations E3 Demo when Ezio walks through it to get to the Great Chain
  • The Grand Bazaar resembles very closely to a Damascus market in the first Assassin's Creed Game
