Girolamo Savonarola (September 21, 1452 – May 23, 1498) was an Italian Dominican priest and leader of Florence from 1494 until his execution in 1498. He was known for his book burning, destruction of what he considered immoral art, and hostility to the Renaissance: Bonfire of the Vanities. In Assassin's Creed II, he will appear as the antagonist in the episodic content relating to this event.

It has been revealed that he was a Templar[1] using the Apple of Eden to control Florence in the absence of the Medici, though this is weird since his greatest opponent in the real historical context was supposed to be Pope Alexander VI, a.k.a. Rodrigo Borgia, leader of the Templar order in the game canon (he is even the one who excommunicated Savonarola, and ordered his execution).
