Gerontospilios was a cave in Minos' Legacy in Messara, Greece. It was used by Followers of Ares members as a base and had two entrances.

During the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the place, killed the followers, freed their prisoners and looted the valuables within.[1]

Trivia

  • The cave of Gerontospilios lies on Crete and is a place of many archeological findings. It also played a role in the Cretan revolution against the Turks, in 1824, where 370 unarmed villages were suffocated due to the Turks sealing the entrance and making fires within, using up all oxigen within.[2]
