"Cutting through groups of people, he moves towards his target as silent and deadly as a snake. Quickly, he rushes to his victim, brandishes his two knives and plants them into flesh, as if they were fangs. The target falls, the crowd screams, but the Footpad has already vanished."
Ubisoft description.

The Footpad (real name: Lanz) was an unlockable Animi Avatar, used by Abstergo Industries to train their recruits in the Animi Training Program. He became available after a recruit had reached level 35, and he used a pair of daggers called Shivs as his primary weapon.

Unique Moves

The Footpad had several unique moves:

(High Profile, Front)

The Footpad runs directly at his target and raises one of his shivs for a high attack, but the target resists by grabbing his arms and pushes him back. Then, the Footpad ducks down to waist level for another attempt and stabs the lower torso of the target.

(Low Profile, Front)

The Footpad approaches his target and inflicts a rapid sequence of punches to the middle of their torso, followed by an uppercut to his target's jaw, which sends his victim's head backwards. Once their neck is exposed, he brings down his Shivs to the lower neck for the final blow.

(Low Profile, Back)

The Footpad approaches from behind, grabbing his target by their left shoulder, before stabbing them in the side of the abdomen twice, the second stab forcing his victim to the floor as they go limp.

(High Profile, Back)

The Footpad runs to his target from behind and slashes them horizontally across their spine, before stabbing them in the left of the abdomen and hastily removing his shiv.

(Bench Kill)

The Footpad slashes his seated target across the neck with his shiv, before they collapse he grabs their shoulder as he brutally plants his weapon into the side of their abdomen. After stabbing them, he pulls his shiv free, which also pulls his victim to the floor.

(Aerial Kill)

The Footpad jumps from a rooftop, pulling out one of his shivs in mid-air while he falls towards his target. Using the downward momentum, he lands on them to break his fall and embeds his shiv into the neck of his victim. Pulling his shiv free, the Footpad stores it away while his victim lies dead on the floor.

Trivia

  • "Footpad" is an old-fashioned word for thief, but was replaced by the term "Mugger" in the late 15th century.
  • In the Dutch version of the game, the Footpad translates to "the Highwayman".
    • Also, the Russian translation of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood labels him as "the Soldier".
  • It is interesting to note that, in the trailer showing the Footpad, he is seen perhaps stealing something from the Barber's waist, before becoming the target of the chase; not unlike the Pickpockets from Assassin's Creed II.
    • Pickpocketing is not an action performable in the multiplayer. It is unknown how or why this action was performed in the trailer, however, it was most likely cosmetic.
    • The Barber seems to be chasing the Footpad in order to assassinate him, however, the Footpad kills the Barber very shortly afterwards.
  • In the Limited Codex Edition of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, on the multiplayer character card for him, there is a spelling mistake: "Cutting through groups of people, he moves towards his target as silent and deadly as a snake. Quickly, he rushes to his victim, brandishes his two knives and plants them into flesh, as if they were fangs. The target falls, the crowd creams, but the Footpad has already vanished."
  • His shivs have what appears to be brass knuckles, which may explain why he punches his target in his Low Profile, Front kill animation.
