Flint

Flint is a sedimentary rock texture of the mineral quartz and was primarily defined during the Stone Age. Flint appears in lumps or masses of other sedimentary rocks, such as limestones and chalks.

History

In the 1st century BCE, flint was used in weapons, such as the Flint Spear, in the tip of the spear, which was used by the Hidden Ones founder, Bayek of Siwa.[1] In the 870s, flint can be seen in caves, like the Grime's Graves in England.[2]

During the American Revolutionary War, flint was bought and sold as a commodity in the thirteen colonies. The Kanien'kehá:ka Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton created flint, with the use of materials lead ore, iron ore, and limestones and the help of Davenport Homestead's blacksmith, Big Dave. With the use of flint and the aid of Big Dave, Ratonhnhaké:ton was able to craft multiple and varied pistols, such as flintlocks and duck foots.[3]

Behind the scenes

Flint was known to be used as a sharp cutting tool and as a fire-starter, when struck against steel.
