Emilio consults with Carlo Grimaldi, a government official.

Emilio Barbarigo (1421-1485) was a tyrant of Venice and was secretly a Templar. He is the first assassination target in Venice. Nevertheless, he was an extremely wealthy noble merchant, who's sole desire was to take over Venice.  He is a member of the powerful Barbarigo family. He lobbied the government and edged out the competition to gain power in the Venetian market. He single-handedly funded the local police force, keeping his finances tax-free.

In Venice, Emilio had taken control of Venice's merchant district and was ruling it with an iron fist. Emilio provided weapons to the other templars in Florence. He apparently single-handedly funded the city guard. He lives in a large palazzo surrounded by many guards.

He is first seen at a meeting with various Templars including Jacopo de' Pazzi and Rodrigo Borgia. During this meeting, he kills Jacopo along with Borgia. Emilio is next seen meeting with Carlo Grimaldi, a government official who informs him that Ezio has arrived in Venice. Emilio is assassinated by Ezio shortly after Carlo leaves.

He was related to Marco Barbarigo , Silvio Barbarigo and Agostino Barbarigo.

Final Words

Ezio: Do not be afraid.

Emilio: I feel no fear, assassin. Only regret. I sought unity. Stability. Order.

Ezio: At too great a cost.

Emilio: Progress demands sacrifice.

Ezio: Non trovo alcuna gioia in questo, ma non c'è altro modo. (I take no joy in this, but I see no other way.) Requiescat in Pace. (Rest in Peace).
