The Aksumite Kingdom, also known as the Kingdom of Aksum, was an African kingdom existent from the 1st century CE until its collapse around 960. It was based in what is now northern Ethiopia and Eritrea, and spanned Djibouti and Sudan.[1] In the 9th century, the kingdom was already in decline, having to deal not only with invasions by slavers from the Abbasid Caliphate but also with internal strife in the form of civil wars.[2]
