The Akousmatikoi Cave is a cave located within Devotee's Sanctuary, northwest of the Heraion on the Greek island of Samos.
During the Peloponnesian War, the cave served as a hideout for a group of Followers of Ares, who worshipped the Greek god of war there. The Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the cave, eliminating the Followers of Ares and claiming their valuables.[1]

In around 422 BCE, the new group of Followers stationed there had been paid off by Mestor, Herodotos' childhood friend, to attack Kassandra and Herodotos.[2] When investigating the cave, Kassandra went on ahead and killed all the Followers in the cave, Herodotos follower her into the cave and found a collection of his brother Theodoros' poetry, a family heirloom, and a list of influential people with Mestor's missing. They discovered that Persia was planning an invasion of Samos and was being backed by either Mestor.[3]
