AMRITSAR//INDIA//1830

The Darbār Sāhib, also called the Harimandir, was built in 1604 as a Sikh religious complex. It was destroyed on several occasions by Afghan invaders, only to be rebuilt during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the early nineteenth century. The new structure was decorated with gold and filled with gold ornaments, leading it to be called the "Golden Temple".
