Sought-after by most cultures I've encountered, gold was trivial for the dwarves of Svartalfheim, given its literal abundance throughout the realm, with silver vastly more desirable and valuable. Karst Hills, meanwhile, served as a network of caverns, presumably small enough for exceedingly lucky dwarves to escape invading giants pursuing them.
