The Da'irat Al-mal, also known as the Grand Auction, was a yearly event that took place at the Grand Bazaar in the Karkh district of Baghdad. It was where rare and precious objects were put up for auction for exclusive and potential buyers to bid for its purchase. From its inauguration, the event has attracted merchants and businesspeople from across the world, including the Western Europe and the Far East.

During one particular event in the 860s, the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq sought to gain entry into the auction in order to locate and identify a member of the Order of the Ancients known as The Treasurer,[1] who was seeking a precious hair pin from the Tang dynasty in their collection.[2]
