Cult of Dionysos
The Cult of Dionysos was a cult dedicated to the Greek god of wine, grapes, and theater, Dionysos.
Part of this cult were a group of female followers called Maenads.[1] It was believed that when the cultists were threatened, Dionysos himself would come wielding the xiphos bearing his name to save them.[2] Another belief concerning the cultists was that they performed hedonistic rituals, and used a ceremonial xiphos in these revelries.[3]
