The Cerberus brothers were a set of Greek triplets[1] during the Peloponnesian War who ran a criminal money-lending operation on the island of Kos, Greece. Their namesake was the monstrous, three-headed dog Cerberos from Greek mythology who guarded the road and gates to the Underworld.[2]
Biography
In the 420s BCE, the merchant Markos convinced the brothers to lend him some drachmae to help establish his start-up winery business at his new vineyard. However, when he failed to repay his debt, the trio set a bounty on him.[3] Once he was captured, they held him at Artemisia Fort, though his erstwhile Spartan friend and mercenary Kassandra the Eagle-Bearer rescued him.[4]
Hoping to allay the Cerberus brothers' ire at his debt and his being freed, Markos sent Kassandra to deliver what he felt was a sample of his best wine to one of the triplets and his bodyguard at Astypalia City. Due to its awful taste, however, the men believed it was intentionally poisoned and attacked Kassandra, who left the city and returned to Markos.[3] In retaliation for the perceived assassination attempt, the Cerberus brothers and their men marched on Markos' vineyard to find and kill Markos, forcing Kassandra chose between whether to once again save Markos from his own ineptitude or to leave him to the Cerberus brothers.[5]
Behind the scenes
If Kassandra saved Markos at his vineyard, the Cerberus brothers can be knocked out and recruited to join her crew on the Adrestia.
