Livre

The livre (French: lit. "pound") was the main currency used throughout the Kingdom of France and the subsequent First French Republic following the French Revolution of 1789.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
In the 2014 video game Assassin's Creed: Unity, which is set in the 1790s, the in-game HUD anachronistically uses the French franc's currency symbol "₣",[1] despite it being the currency's unofficial graphic proposed 200 years later in 1988.[2] Historically, the kingdom's currency was the livre tournois (lit. "Tours pound") variant of the French livre and had "₶" or "£" as its symbol.[3]
