Ezio was a noble, and so was Aveline, yet we didn't need British accents for that to come across. A character's background can be made evident in other ways than an accent; through their bearing, their clothes, the people they surround themselves with, etc.

What makes this even more ridiculous is that Ubisoft is based in frickin' Montreal. Practically every voice actor or actress active in that area is bilingual, speaking both English and French, so it really shouldn't be hard for those actors to affect a French accent. I don't understand why Ubisoft made this decision and I can't say I'm on board with it. I'll reserve judgment until I'm actually playing the game, but for now, I'm side-eying Ubi pretty hard.
