The Mountain was a political group also known as Montagnards that existed during the French Revolution. The name first became popular in 1793 during the National Convention when the multiple minority factions worked together to oppose the Girondists. The party was not united and relied heavily on separate faction leaders, such as Maximilien de Robespierre and Georges Danton. The Mountain went on to become extremely influential in the Reign of Terror.[1]
