Tyche is the Greek goddess and personification of chance, luck and fate. Her Roman equivalent is Fortuna.

Influence[edit | edit source]

The goddess was often invoked to bless a task someone was about to embark on,[1] or thanked after an individual was seen as being exceedingly fortunate to have met or avoided a particular fate.[2][3]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan commander Taureas had a sword named Tyche's Folly, which he considered to be his own 'token of luck'.[4]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Her name, τῠ́χη (túkhē), is Greek for 'luck, chance, fate'.
