Limestone Quarry

The Limestone Quarry was a quarry located in the Haueris Nome of Egypt. By 47 BCE, it was also used as a military stronghold for Ptolemaic soldiers.

History[edit | edit source]

Around 47 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa visited the location, dealt with the captains and the commander stationed at the quarry, and looted the valuables there.[1]

By 38 BCE, the quarry was occupied by soldiers serving the Roman general Gaius Julius Rufio, who was planning an invasion of Egypt. As part of the invasion plan, Rufio had his men at the quarry load a cart with luxurious goods, which were to be offered as bribes to Egyptian officials to sway them to Rufio's cause. Bayek, having learned of the general's plans from a note he found at the Saragina Camp, travelled to the quarry and destroyed the cart.[2]
