"I've been waiting to get back at these Britons ever since you broke me from that cage, Dane. The time is nigh."
―Baeldaeg to Eivor, c. 874.[src]-[m]

Baeldaeg was a Mercian nobleman who served as a thegn under ealdorman Merton of Sciropescire during the late 9th century, alongside Orlaf and Eadric.

Under the rule of King Ceolwulf, Baeldaeg worked with the allied Sons of Ragnar to combat against the invading Britons led by King Rhodri the Great. Merton died in one of the battles against the Britons,[1] and Baeldaeg was captured and held at the Dhustone Quarry.[2] Eivor Varinsdottir freed Baeldaeg and the other thegns and they joined her attack on Caustow Castle.[3]
